Top 5 Reasons to Fanboy / Fangirl Over Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Optimized-Latest-The-Force-Awakens-Trailer-Description

By now, you should have seen and have had time to digest the awesome film that is Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. If not, go to the theatre right now and read this below masterpiece 12 hours and 3 minutes later.

The million dollar question to question is whether the JJ Abrams masterpiece is indeed a masterpiece that has lived up to its hype? Your pals at unFOMO believe so, and here’s why (if you don’t agree with every word below, may the force be with you!):

5. BB-8

BB-8 is an astromech droid and is the companion of ace pilot Poe Dameron of the Resistance. Like R2-D2 in Episode IV, BB-8 plays an important role by holding key information. R2-D2 held the blueprints for the Death Star while in this movie BB-8 has a map used in the search for Luke Skywalker. Kids and adults alike love BB-8 not just for its relevance but BB-8 is the cutest droid in the galaxy!

4. A Stormtrooper turns good

The movie’s first scene introduces us to the new villain, Kylo Ren, his team of Stormtroopers, and one specific Stormtrooper, FN-2187, who unlike his peers doesn’t take part in the burning of the village. Star Wars fans have been waiting a long time for this. FN-2187 later helps Poe escape the First Order and they steal a Tie Fighter in an epic scene.

3. Han Solo and Chewbacca’s return

We knew from the trailer that Han Solo and Chewbacca would make a glorious return and we weren’t disappointed. Their first scene gives us not only great dialog with the new leads, but we get a crazy monster scene, Han and Chewy blasting down Stormtroopers, some emotional exposition with Leia, and Chewbacca going on a rampage!

2. Familiar character development

After discovering that Kylo Ren is Ben Solo, son of Han and Leia, we get to see a reverse ‘heroes journey’. Just as Luke was naive but displayed skills in Episode IV, Kylo shows that he is powerful but lacks focus in The Force Awakens. Luke chose to learn the ways of the force from Obi-Wan and followed the light path while Kylo wants to follow Supreme Leader Snoke and go down the dark path. In an interesting twist of fate, we get Rey mirroring Luke’s journey, but also Kylo mirroring a dark version of it. Well done J.J. Abrams!

1. The stage is set for Episode VIII

We know all the new characters, have seen the first battle between Rey and Kylo Ren, the Resistance won, the bad guys got away, and we found Luke Skywalker! By only having Luke in the movie’s final act, he’s set up for some really important scenes in the next movie. Check out our Episode VIII predictions article for what we expect in December 2017!
